Matthew Christian joined the staff at the Center for Cognitive and Social Neuroscience at the University of Chicago in August 2006. Prior to joining the Center, Matthew served as co-founder and Chief Operations Officer for OrthoAccel Technologies, a biotech startup (now a part of SimplexityMD). He also worked as the operations manager for the Seminary Co-op Bookstores, one of the country’s largest and most successful independent academic bookstores. He is an entrepreneur with extensive experience in financial management, marketing, ecommerce, personnel recruitment, grant development, and operations. Matthew’s experience makes him a natural choice to manage the financial, marketing, and logistical operations for large, complex initiatives.

Matthew joined the Center in order to bring an entrepreneurial edge to interdisciplinary research. Neuroscience is on the frontier of big problems research and requires the best and brightest from a variety of disciplines. In addition to his work with the Center, he is one of the founders of the Arete Initiative, an interdisciplinary incubator at the University of Chicago. Matthew also serves as the Administrative Director for the Defining Wisdom project and has been active in getting several other projects off the ground, providing project development, staff recruitment, startup expertise, conference planning and financial oversight. A graduate of Valparaiso University's interdisciplinary honors college and Yale's program in Religion and Literature, Matthew seeks to create structures that enable people from the social and biological sciences to work together effectively and efficiently.
